Kenneth Gray, Tax Assessor

Mission

The Tax Assessor’s Office is responsible for annual assessments and the preparation of regular and supplemental tax rolls for real estate, motor vehicles, and business personal property. All assessments must be equitable and also be true reflections of Fair Market Value. The Assessor's Office works with the Finance Department and the Tax Collector to insure that property information is updated and current so that taxes can be billed in an accurate and timely fashion. The office is also responsible for the reading and analyzing of deeds, the updating of the Town’s tax maps, the maintenance of ownership records and mailing addresses, the processing of business personal property returns, exemption applications and tax appeals, as well as providing taxpayers with a variety of information and services.

Rhode Island State Law mandates that cities and towns perform full revaluations of all classes of property every nine (9) years, with statistical updates of all property values during the intervening third and sixth years.  The Town of Jamestown will next perform a 3 year statistical update as of December 31, 2015, which will be reflected on the 2016 tax bill.
